Still getting ready...

I've had a couple of people ask me how the travel plans are coming along, so here is an update. We've made some good progress over the last week.

Our flights are finally booked, so we know the route we are going to follow.
It goes a little something like this:
-Fly from London to Rio;
-From Rio make our way down to Buenos Aires and over to Santiago overland;
-From Santiago we fly up to Venezuela;
-From Venezuela we fly down to Peru (Lima) and we have 2 weeks before the Inca Trail to mess about with. We want to see if we can fit in an Amazon river trip then.
-Inca Trail from the 4 September (nothing like a hard date as an incentive to get ourselves to Cusco on time). Despite the reports that 'you have to book 6 months in advance' we managed to get 2 permits with little fuss;
-From there we make our way to Bolivia overland;
-From Lima we fly to Equador, for a trip to Galapagos;
-From Equador, fly to Cancun for a short time in Mexico and a trip over to Cuba;
-From Mexico fly to Los Angeles - roadtrip!
-From L.A. fly to Japan;
-From Japan fly to China (Beijing)...where we make our way down to Hong Kong overland;
-From Hong Kong fly to Vietnam;
-Then overland through Laos, Cambodia and Thailand;
-Lastly from Bangkok fly back to London.

For those of you that are thinking that's a lot of ground to cover in 6 months, you would be right. We are currently scheduled to head back to London at the end of February, so it's turned in to an 8 month trip.

In other good news, we've also found a tenant for the flat and booked some storage. So later this week we'll be packing up the contents of the flat and starting to take things over to the storage place. Did I mention that storage in London is akin to highway robbery?

We've also booked our travel insurance and are starting to buy mini stuff to go in our leetle backpacks...it will be very interesting to see how the first attempt at packing the 45 litre bag is going to go!

Anyway we fly out on Monday the 28th June, so there's not long left now and we are starting to get excited. I think the next blog post will probably be from somewhere far more exotic than our couch!

Getting ready

Hello All,

For those that haven't heard Steve and I have packed in our jobs, and are going travelling for a while. I am setting up this blog for those that would like to follow our progress.

At the moment we are preparing for the trip and we are aiming to set off around the end of June.

Last night we were up until 12pm painting the spare room and this afternoon the letting agent came in to take some photos. Hopefully we'll find a tenant for the flat pretty quickly.

We've got our new passports and backpacks standing by, and we've had our dental checks and travel vaccines!

Saying that there's still a lot to arrange before we go...watch this space!
